Spy Valley Wines has won four trophies at the recent New Zealand Aromatic Competition held in Christchurch this October, including Supreme Champion Wine of the Show for the Spy Valley ENVOY Johnson Vineyard Riesling 2012.
The New Zealand Aromatic Wine Competition, now in its sixteenth year, focuses on aromatic wines including Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Viognier and other wine varieties including Muscat, Verdelho, Arneis, Rose and Sauvignon Gris, made in an aromatic style from any internationally recognised region.
Along with Supreme Champion Wine, the Spy Valley ENVOY Johnson Vineyard Riesling 2012 also won Champion Riesling and Champion Museum Class (for wines older than the 2015 vintage).
Described as having a bouquet of limes, grapefruit, and citrus blossom, the Spy Valley ENVOY Johnson Vineyard Riesling 2012 has a perfectly balanced steely acid against refreshing natural sweetness which makes it perfect for pairing with a cheese platter or enjoying with a spicy dish.
To round out the trophy wins, the Spy Valley ENVOY Johnson Vineyard Gewürztraminer 2018 collected the trophy for Champion Sweet Wine and the Spy Valley Single Estate Gewürztraminer 2017 won Silver in the Gewürztraminer category. Spy Valley has a strong reputation for consistently producing award winning Gewürztraminer, winning their first trophy in 2002 at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards.
The winning wines will be showcased at the Canterbury A&P Show in the Wine Village from the 14th-16th of November . Spy Valley also has a stand at this year’s show, not only are we bringing along our award winning aromatics, we will also have our other favourite varieties available for tasting at stand E11.
